I don't agree. I don't believe women shine a spotlight on women instead of men because they think women are necessarily the bigger issue. I think when women complain about working for manipulative and mean-spirited women, women who demean other women because they can, they are complaining because they are shocked! Why would another woman - who supposedly 'gets' how difficult it is out there for women - behave so badly? Why would they think that demeaning and embarrassing the women they are supposed to be mentoring is the way to manage their employees? No, women who behave like this are either following a template that their male boss displayed for them, or they are insecure and afraid that their talented and gifted female employees might steal their thunder - and thereby, their security. We need to help women rethink, redevelop, and remodel what a stellar female boss looks like instead going after other women.

I've worked under both women and men. The women have ALWAYS been supportive and cooperative. The men...not so much and definitely leaned more towards aholes than anything else.

I have also had both genders work under me. The women were cooperative and followed instructions, the men just resented having a female as their boss.

The media won't be content until they write the script for every woman out there. Why can't the media just STFU about what women want and need and allow individual women to figure out what they want and need. Not every woman wants to work outside the home but then not every woman wants to work within the home. Men have a choice that is not either or, why don't women? Why does the media feel they have a right to tell women what they should want? They can all piss off as far as I'm concerned. I will do it my way or no way and if that makes me a bitch, well so be it and I will wear that as a badge of HONOR not shame!

I agree. All managers behave differently, whatever their gender. I have seen women being an incredible support to one another as well as holding other women down. However it's the bad experiences that people talk about and as usual women get a much harder time for aggressive or manipulative behaviour than men do.
