Top Ten Things for Which We Are Grateful

The cubicles and corner offices in the U.S. are empty today, as people take the day to eat turkey and cranberry sauce (and pumpkin pie – yum!) with their families, while giving thanks for all the good things in their lives.

We know that 2008 has not been the best year for many of us. And, with the worsening financial crisis, diminishing 401Ks, and rising unemployment, there are some who may be wonder whether there really is anything for which to be thankful.

However, we at The Glass Hammer recognize that many good things have come to us and to all women this year and have gathered but a few of those great things on our list of:

The Top 10 Things for Which We Are Grateful This Thanksgiving Day:

  • 10. The increasing number of enlightened employers that have put in place programs to help women stay and thrive at work.
  • 9. The existence of career choices for women, including the growing number of “on-rampingopportunities enabling women (and men) to return to high-powered careers even after having taken time off for dependent care reasons.
  • 8. The unwavering commitment by successful women to “giving back” and to “paying it forward”, a source of pride, inspiration, and hope for all.
  • 7. The intrepid spirit of women, which drives them to undertake adventures and pursue fascinating hobbies outside of their high-powered careers.
  • 6. The increasing number of women and men who are committed (personally and at the corporate level) to sustainability and environmental concerns, the key to all of our futures.
  • 5. The power that comes with the understanding that each of us has the power to control our own destiny and that, with the right preparation, skills and tips, we can do anything.
  • 4. The trailblazing and inspiring women leading the way, many of whom have been profiled by us as part of our Voices of Experience, Movers and Shakers, Rising Stars, and 35 under 35 series.
  • 3. The ability and opportunity to have frank conversations about the state of the world today and the issues that women and men still face in the workplace.
  • 2. The recognition that we at The Glass Hammer have received for our efforts to inform, empower, and inspire women to do and be everything they can be.

And the top reason for which we at The Glass Hammer are grateful is –

  • 1. YOU – the community of wonderful women (and men) who’ve joined us here on The Glass Hammer, sharing stories, tips from the trenches, and survival strategies on the community board and in blog form.

For those of you in the U.S., have a great Thanksgiving! And for those readers around the globe, have a very happy Thursday. (Hang in there – only one more day until the weekend!)
