by Jane Lucken (London)

The annual Women in the City (WIC) Lunch & Awards celebrates the achievements of professional women working in London, Canary Wharf and Mayfair. This year’s event will be held on November 28, 2008, at which time the winner of the prestigious Woman of Achievement Award will be announced.

Nominations are now being accepted for the women working in any of the following categories: Accountancy, Alternative Investment, Financial Services, Insurance Services, Legal Services, Management Consultancy, Property & Facilities Management. The winner of each category will be announced on October 28th. Winners are selected from a short list made up of the Category Winners and are chosen based on demonstrable leadership skills, as well as their ability to develop women in their own teams, build and nurture networks and promote women’s progress within their sector and the wider business world.

The creator of the Women in the City Lunch, business networking expert Gwen Rhys said, “The introduction of the Awards last year not only draws attention to the issues facing career women in the City, but recognizes and promotes women’s achievements to a wider audience, helping to identify role models for future generations.”

Fiona Hotston Moore, last year’s Accountancy category winner and a partner at Mazars, said of her award, “I received a lot of positive feedback from my team, clients and contacts. The publicity I gained in a range of publications helped to enhance the firm’s profile and I look forward to helping my firm and the Institute of Chartered Accountants for England & Wales assist other women to meet their full potential.”

The winner of last year’s Insurance Services Category, Lillian Boyle, Managing Director of international new business within Resolution plc said, “The awards give real recognition to women working in City and being able to promote the insurance sector in this way has been a great honour. There are many women working in insurance in London who are making a substantial contribution to our businesses and Women in the City is an excellent way to highlight these achievements and develop greater networking.”
