Leave it to bureaucratic corporations to create walls and excuses to avoid tapping into one of, if not the most, valuable untapped resources in the work force. Women and working mothers. The politically based corporations make your evaluation of this statement as being true “They care FIRST that you’re AVAILABLE. Second that you’re affable. Third, that you’re able.”

Smart small business owners want and attract women and working mothers who will produce the results desired, whether at the office or from their homes. Over 50% of all start up businesses are being founded by women. Now women owners can and hopefully will create the conditions and focus to not only attract women but nurture their untapped potentials to generate the remarkable achievements they are capable of producing. The best way for women to find the conditions Jane Sanders described so well, is to create them for themselves.

As a gender issues and communications expert for the corporate world, I completely agree that FWA's are indeed critically important to an organization's ability to recruit and retain women. And not just women anymore, but also Gen Y and men. Women have been ringing the warning bell for years...issues that impact them affect everyone else too.

AS increasing numbers of companies also realize, it takes more than FWA's to recruit and keep women. Women look for a community they feel part of and can contribute toward; they want to make a difference in the world; they need acknowledgment; they want training and plenty of it; they prefer to work for ethical companies who walk their talk; and of course they want to be treated and paid equally and respectfully. Among many things!
